Alternate Australian deployment

The 1st Australian Task Force was based in Nui Dat in Phuoc Tuy Province in South Vietnam. Although the task force was able to achieve a remarkable degree of pacification within the province, despite the limited size of the task force.

A claim that has been levelled by historians following the Vietnam conflict is that the province itself was not critical to the war effort. As such is there another province or area that would be appropriate for the capabilities of the Australian task force and possibly contribute more to the conflict?

Move the brigade wherever you like, it would have made no difference to the war, nor would an additional brigade, division or corps.

If the tf was deployed elsewhere then the government would have to be fair dinkum about equipping it to fight a tougher war.

Exactly right, the question is where and what the task force would look like. In addition because of the probability of heavier fighting would this mean cmf addition to the force?

I am rebooting my Cambodian TL and as part of it I intended to have the Australian Task Force deploy to Cambodia rather than South Vietnam. The timing for the deployment would mirror the OTL. However, this would also mean assistance IRT size, training cadre preceding them (AATC) so if you are happy I might PM you after I have thrashed out the concept further. At this stage I don't know if the AATV would still occur, but I would presume so.
