A while back, I posted a discussion about the original plans for Walt Disney World in Florida - how it would consist of a full-fledged city on top of its theme parks.

Besides the preliminary plans for Epcot, there are a bunch of ways that other theme parks can develop and emerge:

-Theme park development in a world without Disney (the company)

-Cold War WI: Khrushchev visits Disneyland

-WI: Coney Island-style parks remain predominant?

-Alternate studios/corporations that could successfully enter the theme park business.

Some other points of discussion about alternate theme parks include WestCOT and Disney's America, which never saw the light day but nonetheless remain interesting WIs. Besides the mouse, some alternate ways that these places can emerge and evolve may be reflective of greater trends in societal development. Like, for instance, if post-WWII American urbanization was less dominated by auto-centric suburbs, which would potentially give the early seaside/lakeside parks more staying power.
