Alternate alternate timelines

Is there any such thing as an alternate alternate timeline? I mean, a timeline which is the same as an existing alternate timeline up to a point, but then diverges from it?

An example would be a timeline based on Turtledoves "Great War" series, but in which the Reds succeeded in establishing their own state.

Does anyone know of any properly developed examples of this kind of thing?

I don't know examples, but I think there might have been some, and I also thought about making a list of PODs for my Chaos TL...

Sure they exist. Typically you find them in the ASB section as they deal with ISOT mainly but I have seen them from time to time.

In a few books, like in Phillip K. Dick's Man in the High Castle, there's an alternative history book in the alternate history, which is sort of like our history, but not quite.

If you means alternate versions of alternate timelines, sure - you see a few of them now and then here, like that alternative Draka timeline, with a more ambivalent and realistic outlook.

there's a bunch of them over at the AHTG egroup.

in them, the timeline diverges from OTL at one point, and the timeline splits in two some centuries later.

Absolutely.

Heck, take a look at all the alternate Draka timelines!

And I think there are several extensions of existing timelines.

We had a couple variants of Weimar World in the offing, but they didn't entirely take off. Two of my favorites are where the Poles join the Axis earlier and pre-emptively invade Germany, and where Hitler successfully pulls off a coup in Austria instead of committing suicide with the failure of the Austrian Civil War, giving us a Hitlerite Austria and Lettow-Vorbeck led German Republic.

I have developed a couple variants of the East African Republic timelines (all hail L-V, great bwana of AH!).

And then there was the Weimar World Variant with a Major Global War between the Axis and North Euro Alliance...

Yep, Weimar World II, wasn't it?

Well, I didn't mean ASBs and I didn't mean alternate alternates with the same POD as the original alternate like in The Man in the High Castle and I didn't mean timelines that are only mentioned in passing or undeveloped and I didn't mean the alternate Draka timelines - if they are the same ones I'm thinking of - as they are attempts to create more a more plausible timeline by changing things from the start, rather than initially accepting the books' timeline and then diverging from it.

Yes, that's what I meant. Perhaps I should have called them "two-headed timelines" or something.

If there are any worth spending time on, could you give me a link?
