Hi Everyone!
I'd like to submit an aircraft profile, for an alternate aircraft type that could have been used in the AH-version of the Great Patriotic War.
This aircraft is the Airspeed A.S.39 Fleet Shadower, a British aircraft whose original mission was to operate off Royal Navy aircraft carriers, and whose primary mission was to "shadow" or maintain contact with an enemy fleet at night.
The requirements called for long-duration (6 hours), and the ability to operate quietly and at extremely low speeds. Cruising speed at 5,000' (1,525 m) was 113 mph (181 km/h). Stalling speed (full throttle) at 5,000' (1,525 m) was 37.5 mph (60 km/h).
I've put the aircraft in the colours and markings of the Soviet Air Force, and I thought considering its ability to operate quietly, at low speeds and long flight duration, perhaps it could have been put to good use by the "Night Witches", (female pilots of the Soviet Air Force who flew nuisance missions against German troops.)
If anyone else here can offer some "alternative alternatives", please feel free to do so.
Chuck
