Alternate 1715-16 Jacobite Rebellion

If it's 1697, James is going to be raised an Anglican off the bat assuming James II allows it. Same for 1700
In 1700 William dropped the religion question completely and let him be a Roman Catholic. But James II didn’t want to accept the legitimacy of William III’s reign. If this did happen however, when William died in 1702, James would only be 14. So there would be a Regent or a Regency Council. Who would be on it I wouldn’t know. Also, what would happen to Anne, would she go to Denmark with or husband or stay in England. She wouldn’t be able to accept the reign of her brother though.

Hmm interesting, i imagine Anne might be on the regency council as the senior member of the royal family, Marlborough, Berwick

The question is though will she accept his reign. She was the key perpetrator in spreading the warming pan myth and no one wants to get kicked out of the line of succession. She also had significant support from others and I would imagine she’d try to overthrow James.

She could try, though I don't think the High Tories would support her, especially if James converted.

No Queen Anne means Marlborough probably doesn't rise above an earl. He's too much of a parvenu to get onto the council anyhow. Edward Seymour pulled it off but a) he was the king's brother-in-law/uncle and b) a decent politician/courtier. Churchill was a good soldier but a survivalist when it came to court life. He'd sell his sword to the highest bidder. William nor Queen Mary had no time for him, and the only reason he got as far as he did was his wife's quasi-lesbian relationship with Brandy Nan. And even she overplayed her hand (unlike the duchess of Somerset) which led to Anne dropping Churchill despite the fact her beef was with his wife.

Hmm this is true, would anne keep Churchill as a commander in chief if she served as her brother's regent?

I don’t know. I don’t think he’d be Regent either, I think the Regency would be ingested in a Council arranged by King William. As to who’d be on it I don’t know. I’d also like to know if Whigs would try to depose him during his reign, more specifically the Regency which would last (1702-1706).

I'm not sure, I think if James is King, the whigs are likely going to lose power.

Yes but will they rebel or try to bring the Elector of Hanover to England. Will they actively plot against or even attempt to assassinate the King. Also will they rally around Anne and try to depose James.

I think they’d try and Influence James to support them. Rebelling against him might be suicidal

True, but would James be willing to beytray his Tory supporters. And they wouldn’t be close to be supporting him unless he gave up power and converted. No Whig would support him as a Catholic unless they were moderate.

Indeed, I do think James converting or being raised Anglican makes this shit a lot easier aha
