A Friendly Guide to the Mystical Occident: From England to Constantinople. A guide for Chinese tourists during the height of Chinese imperialism in Europe, it depicts the quaint and mysterious practices of the Occidentals, from their firm belief in tarot cards and zodiacs to the esoteric rituals of celibate monks.
Occidental decadence and despotism are highlighted, as seen in the lack of proper agricultural welfare systems along Confucian lines, as well as the behemothal castles which the rulers build in their petty wars for tiny bits of land. It is noted that while the Chinese have believed since the time of Mencius that the emperor's authority derives from the people, the Occident has always been ruled by warlords ever since the fall of Rome. Thankfully China has brought them freedom now.
