Alt-History Aftermath Scenarios Implied by Media

Return of the living dead With the destruction of a large part of a city With Nuclear weapons and The zombie plague being shown to Be Spread through Fallout It's It's obvious That the United States Will not be recognizable By the year 2000

Long story short, I don't see the US and Russia going back to the status quo at the climax of MW3...

Considering how one of the first levels of MW3 was 'Black Monday' which takes place on Wall Street, I am predicting the United States entering into a economic depression from the cost of fighting the war on it's own turf. Compared to the USA, Russia was mostly unscathed during the war, though I don't think it'd be any better off considering the expense of financing and supplying the invasion of continental Europe and of the continental United States.

MW3: Russia Invades Everybody

Has anyone tackled the original Modern Warfare trilogy?

Considering the amount of casualties and money wasting to launch a failed invasion of the United States immediately followed by a failed invasion of Europe in certain Russia is either collapsing or having serious changes in government.

The YA series The Diviners, who is very well researched when it comes to historical accuracy, functions as a secret history of sorts until the very end, when the existence of the paranormal is made public in the US, not long before the rise of Nazism.

Massive butterflies there. The ending also implies that one of the characters, who is 15, will grow up to be a MLK-like figure, while his older brother is taking the first steps towards becoming a vaguely Socialist writer.

In a somewhat similar vein, Resident Evil is going to be a very different world than the one we're used to.

As I recall, the premise is that Russia believes the US was directly responsible for a major terrorist attack on their soil because a former US Ranger(who had been infiltrating the ultranationalists) was found dead at the scene. They then launch a conventional invasion, reaching at least as far as New York City. That ends badly when a joint Delta Force-US Navy SEAL team manages to successfully storm a missile sub docked in occupied New York Harbor and turn its missiles on the Russian Navy, sinking a substantial chunk of their ships.

After that the Russian president decides to try and open negotiations, but on the way to the peace conference his plane is hijacked by ultranationalist commandoes; the FSO manage to wipe out most of the terrorists, but a second wave, led by the leader of the group, manage to personally capture the Russian President. Following this a series of chemical weapons attacks are launched in major European cities like London and Paris as the ultranationalists force the Russian President to authorize a major renewed offensive, with most of Western Europe being rapidly overrun.

Ultimately a joint operation between Delta Force and Task Force 141 succeeds in rescuing the Russian President along with his daughter, who’d also been held hostage; the president then immediately agrees to peace terms and puts an end to the fighting, while the ultranationalist leader is hunted down and killed by Task Force 141.

I suppose it might also be similar to the ending of Harry Turtledove's Hot War trilogy, but with more casualties and widespread devastation.

Has anyone done a continuation of it like TL 191?

would be interesting to see the world post-Cloverfield. I am assuming the monster was eventually killed and NYC abandoned (I am guessing because of the parasitic creatures dropping off the monster.)

The Escape from New York movies definitely have some implied societal collapse going on. Would love to see some expansion on that story and the world at large.
Apparently the novelisation gave some interesting implications about the state of the world, from a Battle of Leningrad in World War III, the West Coast is a No-Mans Land, and the lingering effects of nerve gas slowly driving the population crazy. If you include Escape From LA, then Shining Path went from revolutionary group in Peru to conjuring all of South and Central America all the way up to the border with Texas
Just found this article about the upcoming prequel that mentions a fairly significant refugee crisis as well.

The aftermath of The Second Coming would be "interesting" to say the least.
Steven Baxter, a good-hearted but slightly awkward video shop worker from Manchester, disappears for forty days and forty nights after a drunken night out with his friends to celebrate his best friend Judy's divorce, during which he shared a kiss with her. He is found wandering Saddleworth Moor, and he claims to be the second coming of Jesus. At first he is met with scepticism, and is even locked up. One of the few people who believes him is a young Catholic priest, who mentions an obscure Christian text that mentions that the lamb will be sent to the city of the North, followed by a series of numbers that turned out to be map co-ordinates. The recent death of the Pope is also seen as a sign. Steve escapes and, after one final night out before starting his duties, decides to indicate he is really the son of God to humanity by turning night into day over the small area of the football stadium at Maine Road (he lets people know about it by advertising on the internet). The feat attracts the attention of the world's media. Steve then announces he must find the third testament within five days. He states that humanity needs to start taking responsibility for their actions, and that everyone, regardless of their religion or origin, needs to begin again and forget past conflicts. He also says that Christians should not boast about being right, then reveals that currently Heaven is empty, while Hell is bursting at the seams. There is much hysteria and panic; particularly when The Devil and several demons possess people (only indicated by silver eyes) to cause trouble. Satan takes possession of a man named Johnny Tyler that Judy met through a dating agency. He eventually reveals to Judy he wants Steve to fail and fall into despair, so that after Armageddon God will judge Steve's actions as a human and send him to hell, and they can rule together. In a deleted scene, it is revealed Satan also wants God to return to being the merciless, angry God of the Old Testament.

Later, it is revealed that Steve's earthly father could not have fathered him as he was born sterile, another indicator that Steve is really the son of God.

There is also media frenzy surrounding the events, especially after a tape is leaked of Steve saying that the world will end if the testament is not found, and he is taken into police protection. Some of Steve's friends accept him as the Messiah - Pete (who kept his Christianity hidden, not knowing how his friends would react) and Fiona (who becomes crazed, as this is the first time she has ever believed). Judy (an atheist), remains sceptical. She and Steve have some heated arguments (at one point, in a fit of anger, Steve is tempted to use his godly powers to kill her), especially as despite being the son of God, Steve is neither omniscient (relying on information "downloading" into his head, which frustrates him too) nor omnipotent (e.g., he cannot heal the sick). Steve later says that he does have powers, but he refuses to use them as he could get power mad, and reiterates it is up to humanity to sort themselves out this time. Judy is also confronted by several demons and manipulated into situations to get her to believe, which is part of Satan's plan to have Steve fall into despair.

During the next few days, Steve miraculously survives several attempts made on his life, including a bomb going off in a pub in which he is drinking. The devil and his demons also attempt to turn his father Frank against him, getting him hooked on drugs and alcohol and convincing him that he is now a joke in the public's eyes (one deleted scene saw him watching Bernard Manning on TV making jokes at his expense). Frank tries to shoot Steve, but ends up killing Pete. After her husband leaves her, Fiona attempts suicide and tries to kill her children too. Also during this time Judy and Steve's relationship grows deeper, and they have sex.

Steve himself has no idea what the third testament will be; he receives too many candidates to figure out which one is the real one. The Chief Superintendent of the police, who is also possessed by a demon, has them thrown out, saying that even if it were there, Steve would not be able to make his broadcast to the world. Having failed to discover the Testament, the people of the world hide in their homes, fearing the world's end.

Steve then visits Judy in hope of trying to work out what the testament is, and Judy reveals to him that it is the record she is making of events. Judy, who is filmed night and day by cameras from the world's media around her house, makes spaghetti and laces it with rat poison, but announces this to Steve before presenting it to him. She states that it is Judgement Day, but for Steve and God, stating that it has been the existence of God or the argument about it which has led humanity to do so many bad things to one another. Steve is persuaded by Judy that he must die, and moreover make it permanent (in the sense of ceasing to exist rather than returning to heaven), so that humanity fights for itself rather than relying on the evils of fundamentalism. This will not only be the death of him, but of God, Satan, Heaven and Hell - the end of all religion. She also says that the absence of any kind of afterlife may scare people into living their lives properly.

Steve does not believe her at first, thinking she was influenced by the demons. He does one last divine "download" and, to his horror, realises that this is indeed the Third Testament, "the closing of the family business." He is scared at first, but then decides that it is time to die, and he eats his Last Supper. Henceforth, the world goes back to normal, with a few people referring to Judy as "the woman who killed God", but she otherwise goes back to living an ordinary insignificant life, having married the policeman who guarded her despite everyone else leaving their jobs and posts in fear of the apparent apocalypse. Judy sees Johnny Tyler (who has no memory of being possessed) and asks him if she did the right thing, but he cannot answer (suggesting that the audience needs to decide for itself whether she did or not).

An earlier draft of the script features a twist ending in which Judy is married to Steve, who has simply given up his divinity and become human again, with only her recognising him. However, Davies was advised against ending the story this way by his friend and fellow writer Paul Abbott, who felt that it cheated the audience.[1]
God died in 2003 and everyone knows.

Another round-up:

True Lies- The fact that a terrorist group was able to acquire nuclear weapons and almost used them on American soil is going to be a giant egg in the face to U.S. intelligence and, presumably, one of the country’s biggest secrets until many years later, assuming it ever gets declassified.

Short Circuit 1 and 2- A sapient robot who gained Canadian U.S. citizenship just before the end of the 80’s publicly should have really caught the attention of the U.S. government and blackballed him from obtaining it, especially when the other robots were destroyed.

Congo- Somewhere in the jungles of the Zaire, there is a female gorilla teaching her offspring Sign Language and their own children will more than likely teach theirs the same thing. A few generations later, humans will discover a troop of gorillas who are able to communicate with human beings.

Iron Storm (video game)- A perpetual WWI and a stock market dependent on it presumes that no one wants peace, because it’s bd for business. How could anyone agree to that and let it happen for all time?

The Nutty Professor 1 and 2- Mostly focused on the second one: So... did Sherman ever make a deal with that pharmaceutical company to distribute that youth formula?

Casper (1995 film)- How will Kat explain what happened at her house to her teachers and classmates when she goes back to school?

Eagle Eye. The US DoD successfully developed a sentient AI by the late 2000’s. When then went rogue and tried to decapitate the government. How will this affect AI research or the response from the world community should this ever come out?

This commercial spot seems to be from a TL with a way bigger space program and/or could be that it's displaying either the aftermath of some great Space accident/tragedy:

Essentially, what endings to Movies, Games, Books, etc. do you think imply interesting Alt-History scenarios?
Sort of like how Independence Day 2 created a scenario out of the aftermath of the first film, or how the Watchmen show furthers the original's TL using the events of the first and showing their effects on history.
Not sure if anyone ever heard of this movie called 'Rollover', starring Jane Fonda. The plot of the movie was that sometime in the early 1980s, due to a mix of factors (the movie plot was convulated), OPEC nations inadvertently caused a capital flight from the US banking system, thereby accidently causing the mass devaluation of the US Dollar (to a degree like Zimbabwe or Weimar Germany). The entire sequence of events bought down the entire world economy.
