Allies assassinate Hitler in 1942?

Earlier in the war the decision not to kill Hitler hadn't yet been made, that seems to be a decision after it was pretty clear that Germany would not win in the East and would be doomed anyway, about the time of the unconditional surrender line, so what if the Allies had gotten lucky and managed to assassinate Hitler? Let's say its clear that it was an Allied plot too, say they get good intelligence and someone willing to do a suicide mission to get him. What then? Let's say its some time in late summer or autumn. Can the regular military scramble and stop Goering or would Goering be able to grab power on Hitler's succession order from 1939? Would the Allies potentially be more open to negotiations? Would they be more open to encouraging the resistance to topple a Goering government?

The drug addict could be stopped by this point, but who takes over really matters of course. If the army does it depends on what faction.

There several allies commando operation planned to kill Hitler
but in 1942 they were all abandoned, Why ?

It was Hitler it self who save him
according to Churchill "Hitler is so stupid in military decisions, he working in our hands, killing him would be to stupid !"
yes the "GROFAZ" made one strategic blunder after Another working in hand of Allies.

Goering takes power, but his hold on power is going to be shaky and there is going to be tons of infighting. The army might decide to put an end to Nazi squabbling by seizing power themselves, but then they'll just start squabbling with each other (and yes they very much did so, despite post-war attempts by the survivors to pretend otherwise). None of the Allies, either west or east, are going to be any more interested in negotiating with Goering or any faction that realistically has a chance of seizing power then they were with Hitler... from their point of view, the Nazis were the symptom not the disease. Unconditional surrender likely comes down anyways as official policy. It was basically already there in 1942 unofficially, its just nobody had sat down and codified it in writing or put a name to it yet.

Whether it results in Germany's 1942-43 successes being scaled down or their disasters worsened will depend quite a bit on the details.
