Allies '46

A thought experiment reversing the old Luft '46 wunderwaffen thing and bringing it down to earth a bit - if, somehow (delayed D-Day and Soviet set-backs in the East, 12 month delay in Manhattan Project), the war had continued at full scale into 1946, what would the Allies (Western and Soviet alike) have been able to field against the Nazis on land, sea and in the air that they didn't in OTL?

Centurion tanks, DH Vampire fighters (plus probably allowing Gloster Meteors to go into combat) and Avro Lincoln bombers for the UK.

Centurion tanks! Gloster meteors! P80 shooting stars! De Havilland Vampires! B50 Superfortresses! M26 pershings! Too many exclamation marks! :)

M20 Super Bazookas (280mm of penetration, to really stop those panzers)

T29/30/34 Heavy Tanks might make into combat fully, so the M26 ends up getting called a medium tank earlier.

The Centurion Tanks get to fight and thus we get more tea delivered to Germany.

The T-44 and IS-3 get to eat German steel as the Soviets continue to march forward. (Perhaps a proto-Ak-47 is in service too, though maybe not due to production delays)

The P-80A, Meteor and Vampire get to play with the remnants of the Luftwaffe.

The USAAF get's the Superbolt, Super Mustang and more B-29's (B-50's get to play aswell) if the JB series is continued (and because I really like Allied missiles) we'd see things like the JB-3 Tiamat, Azon bombs and even the Bat Bomb (ASM-N-2 not ht the other one) and finally the Germans get to doge VB-6 Felixes. (because who doesn't want to drop IR bombs with a CEP of 26m)

Nuclear weapons.

Soviet jets were a bit late for '46, so perhaps Lend-Lease Meteors and/or P80s. piston engined: La-11s, and late variants of the Yak-3.

Tanks: IOTL the first T-54 prototype came in 1945, though there were so many defects it was years before it became a viable system. The IS-3 just missed WW2, so we'd certainly see more of them, and also it's limited production companion the IS-4.

I like that you mentioned the JB 2 loon which rarely get's any attention.

By 1946 the US would have been what 75 thousand of them?

Give or take there were supposed to make 1,000 ever month from April 45' meant to be used against both Germany and Japan, so good luck German AA defenses. Quite ironic the Germans are going to have to dodge buzz bombs, and normal bombers.

If the Americans really want to mess with the Germans, use the JB-2's radio guidance to change targets and throw off interception attempts.

USS Midway and possibly the USS Des Moines. HMS Vanguard enters the war. Also for the USA, F7F Bearcats, F8F Tigercats, the FR-1 Fireball. Maybe the AD-1 Skyraider and/or the AM-1 Mauler.

Edit: some AEW aircraft as well.

USS Kentucky.

USS Midway and USS Coral Sea

USS Oriskany, USS Princeton, USS Tarawa

USS Saipan and USS Wright

HMS Eagle

HMS Ocean, HMS Glory, HMS Perseus

Many cruisers, destroyers, etc.

The T20 varient of the M1 Garand with Select Fire capability. It was ordered into limited production in May 1945. It probably sees service here.

It'd be cool to see the XF-12 Rainbow enter series production (I'm fairly confident it would have won the contract over the XF-11). As a side effect, this might mean the civilian airliner variant gets built.

No more green formations. All your corps, division, & brigade or regiment staff will have a year or more of operational experience. This includes the 20+ divisions, and air wings of the French army. The Allied armies would be at a high level of efficiency.

The oh so lovely Des Moines. One of my favorite classes that gets overlooked far too often. Gotta love semi automatic 8 inch guns.

...and, the timescale is tight, but assuming the war against Japan gets delayed as well as that against Germany, please let the RN Pacific Fleet get the Sea Fury.

Please let the "wunderwaffe" - that's the one with fuck all fuel, aircraft built by slave labourers that have engines with zero reliability and pilots with no training - come up against the pinacle of piston engined perfection, such as the DH Hornet. If they were shitting themselves up against the Mosquito, the Hornet would have them screaming with fear.
