Algeria, Morocco, and maybe Mauritania at war in 1976?

I'm looking into writing a timeline on a victorious Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic and I've been looking for a good PoD; the First Battle of Amgala in 1976 seems to be a good one, as it could have potentially set off a war between certainly Algeria and Morocco, with Mauritania perhaps coming in on Morocco's side (though, given that they were defeated by SADR forces in 1979 IOTL, they would probably get nixed quickly). Is, then, a war between these three nations, with SADR on the side, plausible at this time? Who would win? I tend to believe Algeria, since Mauritania was fairly easily defeated IOTL and Morrocan forces took incredibly high casualties against SADR, but I'm willing to hear other opinions.

Mauritania doesn't seem like it would have much in the way of military strength.

As for the war itself, I can see Morocco winning. There was a report on the North African militaries (granted, long after the timeframe mentioned) that said that when both countries were involved in (admittedly unconventional) wars, the Moroccan military took the hard steps to improve while the Algerian one simply handed most of the dirty work over to "irregulars".

Morocco would win, at the time it had at the least the backing of the US and in general most of the West, at the time Algeria had Soviet backing, I happen to think that it would be another East-West proxy war in which France due to its economic and historical ties would negotiate the peace treaty. I would give my money on the Moroccans due to them having a pretty good military at the time.

Hi , i was looking about some what ifs scenarios of the Sahara and i came across your thread Well , i am moroccan and i believe a war between algeria and morocco already happened in 1963 and it ended with a moroccan victory ,too bad if only all the maghrebians countries teamed up , The Maghreb wouldve been a better place today
