Alexis: from Tsarevich to Tsar Alexis II

Alexis (Alexei) Petrovich was the Russian Tsarevich and the son of Tsar Peter I of Russia. Alexis died in 1718.
Suppose Alexis does not predecease his father.
Peter I dies in 1727.
Tsarevich Alexis becomes Tsar Alexis II. What happens then?

Barring a reconciliation between the two, this would make for quite a tense decade. I imagine Alexei would try to reverse many of his father's innovations; particularly concerning religion. He was an introverted person and would have trouble managing his courtiers. Expect a palace coup in due course in favor of his son.

But what if he lives to see his son die? Would the court keep him around in fear of a Successional War?

Keeping him away from public viewing and political meetings, by giving him an alta matum, surrender your political power and stay on the throne as a figure head, object and find you head on a block?

As Tsar, Alexis has a large library erected which includes books on church and civil law, genealogy, fortifications and works of literature.
