Alexandrina Victoria marries George Frederick Alexander Charles Ernest Augustus 1837

As the tin says. In a bid to keep Great Britain and the Kingdom of Hannover together, both countries nobles arrange for Victoria and George to marry in the hopes they will have a first born son who can inherit both Kingdoms. As for why, lets just say, some started to grow a mite suspicious of Prussian designs, some obscure trade rights, and other things.

How does this go down?

Neither country really wanted to stay together. Very few people in Britain cared for Hanover, while Hanover was quite glad just to have a monarch who lived in their country again, even if it was Ernest.

Ernest may have been another reason why this would not happen. Nobody would have wanted him to be the father of the next King. He'd had too much power over his brother George IV and his political views were extremely divisive. Most people were very happy for him to be King of another country safely away from Britain.

Perhaps, but that is why there is a Parliament. Plus it gives the British another Army to use if needed, though why George III never sent his Hannoverian Army to the Americas to help out instead of hiring Hessians in the ARW I'll never know.

In addition the foothold in Continental Europe may prove useful.

Apparently Hannover had a law that forbade Hannoverian troops to be used outside Europe: http://www.vondonop.org/hessianfaq.html
