Alexandria never burns

Though Julius Caeser never meant to burn Alexandria, it still happened when he set fire to the Egyptian fleet stationed there.

What if Julius never ordered any burning? What kind of effects would that have on both the Romans and Egyptians?

on another note, what happens with the works in the Great Library in Alexadria?

But wouldn't the Library be guarded at all times? Cleopatra has to see some benefit of the knowledge stored there.

Caesar did not burn the Great Library of Alexandria. His troops did destroy much of the area around the docks, including several collections of books, however these were mostly account books and ledgers detailing Alexandrian trade. The Royal (great) library was nowhere near the docks, and was completely unscathed by Caesars actions.
It was largely destroyed be decree of Emperor Theodosius some 400 years later, for housing "pagan knowledge", and finally destroyed completely during the Arab conquests.
