Alexander loses Battle of the Hydaspes?

In 326 BC, Alexander the Great invaded India, meeting an Indian ruler, Porus, in battle somewhere in the Punjab. What would be the results of a catastrophic loss for Alexander's troops at the Battle of the Hydaspes against the forces of Porus?

Would his fragile empire survive such a defeat, and the loss of invaluable veterans this entails?

Could this result in rebellion by some of the various satraps?

And if Alexander dies in this battle, what happens?

All that user defeat really doing is tarnishing Alexander's reputation and also speeding the successor states such that they break out even as Alexander still lives. Basically, OTL a few years early, perhaps a stronger Alexandrian successor state (he takes one for himself, likely Egypt or what becomes Seleucia) but he still does young, likely in battle at some point (he can get lucky only so many times with his injuries), and things still go sour in the aftermath.
