Alexander II of Scotland

King ALexander II of Scotland was one of the greatest kings Scotland ever had, he finally sorted out the borders with England and managed to give England enough of a scare during John's reign that they were never taken lightly again.

Of course the treaty of York did see him give away claims to Northumbria and Cumbria, and Berwick remained a subject of heated dispute.

He did marry Henry III's sister Joan of England in 1221, though they had no issue and Joan died in 1238.

My what if, wonders what might have happened had Alexander II and Joan had a son perhaps named William in say 1224?

And am also wondering if it were at all possible for the terms of the Treaty of York to be more favourable to Alexander?

Or alternatively a timelne where Alexander II did not die in 1249, would he have succeeded in taking the isles?
