Alexander II not killed

ok sure this has been done, but heres my thought what if he out lives his son Alexander III and dies in 1895 leaving the Crown to Nicholas II with no Alexander III

I suppose Russia would become more liberal. Alexander II was reforming out of sheer necessity though; Russia was falling behind on the west. It wasn't like Alexander II was an idealist. Maybe we get a surviving Russian Empire.

According to the rules the next son of Alexander II, Vladimir, would be Tsar.

Why? According to primogeniture Nicholas would be the next in line of succession, and in 1895 he would be 17 years old, he might even assume the throne without a regent.

You are right. I found this: The succession was based on seniority. The Emperor as head of the family and after him his eldest son was heir, then son of the eldest son and so on. In the event that the senior line dies out, the throne passes to next male line closest in relation to the last reigning Emperor. If the male line dies out completely, then the throne passes to a female closest in relation to the last reigning Emperor.

Thanks for correcting.
