Alexander and Ashoka, Together.

What if Ashoka, India's possibly greatest ruler, and Alexander the Great had lived at the same time. (Only about a hundred years separates them in OTL, it's certainly not impossible that one or the other would be born sooner or later) WI Alexander meets him instead of Porus when he invades India. WI the two young men become friends, and then decide to go conquer the world together? (Young men have done this since time immemorial, after all)

It'd be interesting if Alexander converts his vast Empire to Buddhism, to hold it together. An idea of a Buddhist Occident has always fascinated me.

I dont see him converting to Buddhism, seeing how bloodthirsty he was. Ashoka may well have resisted him, like Porus.

IIRC Ashoka was extremely bloodthirsty before becoming a Buddhist... if Alexander reaches India during Ashoka's bloody phase, the two might have found a lot in common

If Alexander meets Ashoka during his early pre-buddhist years, I highly doubt there would be a peaceful settlement between the two. There would be struggle along the Indus river valley, with the phallanx going up against a huge army of elephants and infantry. It would be much tougher than in OTL, and Alexander would actually stand a chance of being defeated.

Alexander would never convert to Buddhism unless one butterflies away his entire outlook on the world. Remember that he believed he was the son of Zeus, and thought it was confirmed by the Egyptian priests.

That thread died three and a half months ago. I denounce you for pointless thread necromancy!
