Albanian POD's

So basically I've been doing a little research into post-Independence Albania, and its a veritable treasure trove of points of divergence throughout it's history. So basically if you have any POD after Albania receives it's independence in 1912, or before as long as it it after 1900.

Essad Pasha survives his assassination attempt, but kills Avni Rustemi in the process. Pasha is restored to power, but remains locked in a blood feud with Pasha's clan as a result, leading to a bloody civil war.

The Noli Revolution succeeds.

Not specifically Albanian in origin, but the Treaty of Versailles recognises the provisions of the 1915 Treaty of London establishing an Italian protectorate over Albania, as well as stripping away large parts of the borders (pretty much this map, though the Serbo-Montenegrin border through former Albania might be different).

I know it's almost certainly an apocryphal story but what if C B Fry had really been offered and had accepted the Albanian throne. Albania becomes the second european nation to play test match cricket:)

1.) Have Balli Kombëtar receive determined leadership, leading to better organization and more British support so that they'll become the main body of resistance instead of Communists.

After the war ends, Tito and his Communists promptly crush the Kosovar insurrection in late 1940s just like in OTL - but without the need to placate a friendly Albanian government down south, Tito but continues the crackdown by shipping most of the local non-Serb population to Albania proper and annexing the rest of the province to Serbia to keep his forming federation in balance and to avoid further troubles in Kosovo.

2.) Kill Enver Hoxha before he rises to power, and have the Albanian Communist movement retain their pro-Soviet outlook with Soviet military bases and financial aid.

3.) After the sudden death of Stalin in 1945, Malenkov and his cronies rise to power in the USSR and approve the Balkan Federation plan between Yugoslavia and Bulgaria. Albania joins in, and the renewed borders include western Macedonia and southern Kosovo.

4.) Expose the ponzi pyramid schemes of 1990s before they wreck the Albanian economy and lead to the Civil War of 1997 - significant butterflies to rest of the Balkans, since UCK and Albanian groups in FYROM will now have much harder time to gain weapons to their revolts.

Well if that map comes into fruition, Essad Pasha will almost certainly hold the most power. Although it be hoofs one self to remember that Albania has been oft partitioned. Almost none of them have ever succeeded, as Albania usually regains the territory in a matter of months or years.

Well, the Greek bit has a lot of Greeks in it, and the Italians can probably hold on to Vlore, but yeah the idea is pretty much 'instant rebellion, probably leading to some sort of larger independent Albania in at least a de facto sense' by the mid 20s (map being about 1920).

Good thread, I approve. Could be useful. :) As miserable and sad as most modern Albanian history has been, there is quite a bit of allohistorical potential in this oft-overlooked country. My personal goal in at least one of my timelines is to make Albania a less isolated and more evenly modernized nation (I'd especially love to avert someone as bad as Hoxha and steer Albania towards something like a reasonably democratic monarchy or republic with a stronger economy and earlier industrialization).

Depend, in OTL the rebellion was put down by Italy, but due to war fatigue it was decided left the nation and try a more diplomatic approach; maybe a different goverment can try to hold it (and face more problem at home)

Well in Dead By Dawn, Im concentrating on Albania's role in history. Rustemi gets into power, Italy and the Greeks divvy it up in 1939, and then the Albanians get back their country after the First World War, with Kosovo and Epirus. Then after WW2, they keep their borders but.....well I shouldn't spoil all of my WW2 stuff. ;)

I'll actually probably PM you about the Slovak history.

In this case it's partially a case that they haven't got everything they wanted (or even got OTL) from Austria, nor the Dodecannese, so feel more need to prove themselves in Albania, at least for a little while.
