This post is for intrigue, curiosity, interest and because I take an interest in gangsters.
Al Capone was considered untouchable and has been a culturally significant individual for the past 80 years. Considering the premise of such a powerful individual it is strange that he got convicted for tax evasion charges. Basically, the state tried to get any criminal charge on him as he was too powerful. So what happens if Al Capone pays his tax or is found innocent of his Tax Evasion charges and remains in charge of Chicago?
(Personally, the issue around his downfall is his 'apparent' 12-year old mentality. The St. Valentine massacre caused public outrage, which caused the state to act, which caused his eventual imprisonment, even when the massacre what not necessary, he was just being tyrannical.)
Capone died only at the age of 48 in 1948 by contracting pneumonia having suffered a stroke, avoiding this is unlikely. However, had he kept in good health he could have lived until he was 70. I cannot imagine the public attention he would have got in 1948 let alone 1958 or 1968.
