Designed by George Miles, test flown by Thomas Rose, and powered by two Ruston T2 axial flow compressor engines, the prototype validated design expectations by reaching 530 kts IAS at 48,000 feet, carrying 4 20mm cannons. Due to a lack of need for high altitude fighters, and Ministry dis-satisfaction with the cockpit canopy design, the type was shelved.
