Air and Space Photos from Alternate Worlds.

Very interesting and yeah it's cool plane. Thanks for the links.

Judging by the articles and a closer look, the B&W photo of the plane with the maintenance crew standing on its wing is probably photoshopped, with the background added as a diorama to the model. Probably the only authentic photo of the aircraft is the one on the coloured postcard (the one with the copyright notice written in German).

BTW, it inspired some of the Hungarian-built planes in my Sparrow Avengers universe. In particular one model, which is basically identical, sans the name and some of the specs and armament. I couldn't help it, this OTL plane just looks too Crimson Skies-esque to not include in such a setting. :p

Here's a rarer seen profile illustration of the plane, with the tricycle undercarriage deployed while on ground :

Is your Sparrow Avengers universe a TL here on AH? if so could how about a link?

No, because it's (unfortunately) still not concise enough to be posted here. But I have been slowly developing it in my free time (over a course of 5 years) and I might start posting it here once I deem it expansive enough to warrant textbook-like chapters or short stories. Be patient and hope that I can muster enough time and will to connect all of my scattered notes and ideas. :) ;)

Are the Romfells part of this TL as well?

Yep. ;) Though, as with other tech and other things, their ATL history and fate is rather different from the one in OTL.

As with the original Crimson Skies, this TL is more tongue-in-cheek and a bit more ASBish and carefree when it comes to the butterfly effect. However, I'm trying to give it an air of somewhat greater plausibility and eschew some of the more wackier or overblown elements of CS (e.g. it's not as aero-centric as CS, zeppelins and more expensive aircraft are rarer, the political and socio-economic context is carefully tailored to fit a central European setting instead of a North American one, etc.).

In terms of atmosphere, by far the closest TL to it (outside the orig. CS) would be Ed's Fight and Be Right. I'm going for a similar "vaguely familiar yet weirdly different late 19th and early 20th century" feel. I plan to eventually make a country-by-country gazeteer similar to the one of FABR (including interviews with various local VIPs and other related stuff).

The early PODs occur in the mid 19th century, but the events they influence are mostly confined to Austro-Hungarian territory (though the butterfly net isn't absolute and the butterflies will affect the world at large even before WWI). WWI occurs largely in a manner similar to the OTL one, though with a few notable differences. Once it nears its end, the main, final POD kicks in (it's related to the WWI peace conferences) and after that... Well, let's just say that the successor states to A-H, the German Empire and the Russian Empire go quite a bit crazier than in OTL. ;) But it will be justified by some of the alternate political and economic developments that can be traced back to the 19th century mini-PODs.

Sounds pretty cool! Be sure to post a link here when it's ready.

The Marton machine seems quite confusing as to the location of the oil coolers and rads and the supercharger intake for the rear engine.

The problem seems to be with artist and modelers. The artist put the rear air intake on the left side and modelers put it on the right. go figure.

I like the tail on the Lightning and I really like the Folgore, the BMW looks good on it much better than those BMW-109 pics I posted on that other thread.

Martin-Baker MB2m

On a recent Hurricane thread I believe I may have mentioned something like this alternative, a Merlin-powered MB2. Presented with a Boulton-Paul Merlin installation and rad, and MB4 vertical tail. Comparable or better performance, easier yet to service and repair, with fixed undercarriage. Imagine if they had George Dowty fix them up with something foldy. Martin never would have gone for the B-P rad, but I didn't want it to look too advanced.

I was looking at drawing an FDB1 with mods, so I did. Gull wing upper and inverted gull lower wing, 5 bladed prop on Beardmore Orion 18 cyl engine, Rex did the fuselage. Only in Canada.
