Amaze me, AHC. How would you do it? How would a nation with a sensible Yatzidite minority (in the millions) develop? How would a nation with a majority or Yazidis work? I'm particulary fond of their inverse gnosticism!

From the article:
"Furthermore, the Yazidi story regarding Tawûsê Melek's rise to favor with God is almost identical to the story of the jinn Iblis in Islam, except that Yazidis revere Tawûsê Melek for refusing to submit to Adam, while Muslims believe that Iblis' refusal to submit caused him to fall out of Grace with God, and to later become Satan himself.[24]"
Toughts?

For the POD, I don't know for Dates are uncertain. Their calendar has year about 4000 bc as year one. Let's work with that.

Ah, the guys with the golden peacock? I remember reading about them in a book I don't have now...

IMHO it would need to be in post-WW1 chaos as the Ottomans generally regarded them as heterodox Muslims and occasionally campaigned against them.

Perhaps if the Kurds get properly blamed for their part in the Armenian Genocide, and Allied armies, perhaps as a part of intervention in Russia, push up from the South, the Yezidi might do a deal with them for a mandate of their own?

Perhaps they get local self-rule in a larger state and later on that state fragments and they get their own independent nation

The problem with the Yazidis is (as I understand it) they're not big on conversions. So you'd need, for there to be any chance of this surviving:

1) A Kurdish state being able to control a big swathe of land in the region (the Middle East is probably where you're gonna want it, but if the Kurds were to relocate somewhere, all the better)

2) Something that weakens the established religions of the aforementioned region. Islam is pretty strong in the Middle East from well before the creation of the Yazidi faith, not looking to helpful

Maybe an alt-Mongol invasion more badly devastates the Middle East, and allow for something along the lines of Yazidism to have its place in the sun. But ultimately, given when it arises, I find this unlikely.

I was thinking. Would it be unbearably ASB if Byzantium helped the kurds against the turks unwittingly helping the spread of Yatzidis?
