The first flight of the gloster F.5/34 is made. The Admiralty is impressed with the design and the test flight. Gloster is asked for a pre production run of twenty aircraft.
The first Illustrious class Carriers are laid down at Cammel Laird and Vickers Armstrong. As soon as the Admiralty place the orders of the Illustrious class the next generation of armoured carriers are started to be designed. With the Americans activating the escalator clause of the second London treaty causing Battleship armament to increase from 14 inch to 16 inch and aircraft carrier tonnage to increase to twenty seven thousand tonnes. The Admiralty starts design of a 27 000 tonne aircraft carrier capable of carrying 60 aircraft internally in two hangers.
