AHChallenge: Early Names for Pacific and Southeast Asia Continues to 'Present' Era

How can we have the Pacific Areas and Southeast Asia area names persist like what they are in early exploration maps?
In example, Philippines are called Maniolas or Tawalisi, and there's Terra Australis/Java Maior somewhere. Mare mortuum is used to call some areas too.

Should we have a stronger, more gospel-expanding Spanish Empire that eventually killed the native language and replace them with Latin?

Thanks in advance!

First, Maniolas is a rendering of Maynila which was one of the names of the Island we now call Luzon, you can have Maynila or a variant of Pulilan/Pulilu from the old name of the Laguna De Bay as the name of the Island then it is known as Maniolas or Tawalisi to the outsiders like Japan is called Nihon in Japan but for others it is called Nihon the same can do for the other areas or South East Asian polities.

In the case of the Philippines, one could simply postulate Magellan failing to originate/publicize the name, leaving something derived from Manila as the predominant term.
