Your alternate history challenge create a world where Rome has a French pope. The ottoman empire exists but not in Anatolia. What effects would we see to the Mediterranean and the rest if Europe.

There have been lots of French Popes.

The problem with not having the Ottomans in Rome is that the Ottoman Empire was a successor state to the Sultanate of Rum, whose primary power base was in Anatolia, and its difficult to migrate them out, because they started smack in the middle of Anatolia.

As I recall, Basileus444's TL, Age of Miracles, has an Ottoman Empire based in Iraq. There's obvious consequences of that, I suppose, since it means there'd be some other nation in Anatolia which kicked them out. It could be a rival Turkish beylik, a resurgent Byzantium, or any of a number of things, so the effects on the Med as a whole would depend on who lives there.

OK how bout we don't have a resurgent Byzantium. How bout Wallachia under Vlad seizes Constantinople and Anatolia and he then goes to war with the kingdom of Epirus.

I know of the timeline but I might add that this Vlad hates the Greeks and wants to create a wallachian empire which will encompass the Byzantines Hungary and Rome itself. Bringing him to war with the French pope.

So, this Vlad is going to get killed by one of a hundred possible enemies, and his "empire" not last long enough to have a period of decline.
