AHC:Wittelsbach Venice

Is it possible for the Wittelsbachs to rule Mainland Venice or the March of Verona or all of the Republic of Venice?

Is it possible for the Wittelsbachs to rule Mainland Venice or the March of Verona or all of the Republic of Venice?

You're going to have to provide a bit more info than that. What does the House of Wittelsbach to do with any part of Italy? Or is this just because they were the go-to family for King-shopping?

Possibly in the Congress of Vienna, if the Wittelsbachs defect from Napoleon fast enough and make a very significant contribution it could be argued that they deserve something more in compensation for losing Tirol back to Austria.

The trick will be getting them to want Venice and be able to get it over Austria, who will also want it. Their natural inclination on being able to get more out of Vienna would be to head deeper into Germany, possibly the Rheinland.

Alternatively: Have Maria Teresa marry a Wittelsbach Prince, thus Austria is by this point is technically under the control of house Wittelsbach (although they'll be styled Habsburg-Wittelsbach). By this point the Republic of Venice is already in decline, so the new Austro-Bavarian Empire will be interested, and likely be able, to absorb it in the future.

This will of course completely change the course of the rest of history because the War of Austrian Succession will be completely different. A United Austria-Bavaria (even if only united by Alliance) will be a decent sized monster, and might be enough to prevent Prussia from successfully seizing Silesia. At the very least, no longer having an enemy within spitting distance of their capital will give them much more room to breath.

Go back to a medieval or renaissance HRE inetrvention in northern Italy, and have the emperor instal a Wittelsbach as Margarve of Verona?

I agree, having a Wittelsbach granted the march of Verona is a good start.

Perhaps the Savoyards have some bad genetic luck post-unification and the sole Princess of Italy as the sole heir (ie, she has no cousins, is the last of her line, ect) marries a Bavarian Prince? There is some uproar but Parliament eventually agrees to the marriage, albeit with restrictions, although her husband shall be crowned and be King of Italy besides her.

A little out there, but a Bavarian would technically rule Venice.

Another idea is the War of Austria Succession... the Franco-Bavarians do much better and manage to take Bohemia and Austria proper; Maria Theresa is left with Hungary and Bavaria, now ruling Austria and Bohemia. If something like Napoleon happens, a parition of Italy appears likely, and this Bavarian monarchy would benefit.

But could Bavaria actually own all of Austria-Bohemia? Perhaps Lower Austria (Tirol and Styria), but I doubt they could hold Vienna and that region.
