AHC/WI: Sultanate of Sulu survives to modern day

The Sultanate of Sulu was a Muslim state that ruled the islands in the Sulu Archipelago in what is today is Southern Philippines.

Was it possible for Sulu to survive until today or they're doomed to be subsumed under the Spanish and American colonial powers?

Assuming Sulu managed to be independent, how it will impact on the region?

What about Sulu Sultanate uniting Visayas?

It did survive up to the 20th century IIRC. It was a Spanish protectorate and then an American protectorate, but it existed.

Have the Sultan accept American suzerainty immediately instead of fighting an insurgency, and I don't see it being dissolved.

It might have an effect on Sabah, maybe with it becoming part of an independent Sulu instead of Malaysia, but IDK what else could change.
