Anastas Mikoyan was one of the most prominent Armenians in the history of the Soviet Union's leadership, and he remained influential throughout the Lenin, Stalin, and Khrushchev eras. So, how do we make him General Secretary of the Communist Party of the USSR, and what might his tenure look like?

A cursory glance at the Wikipedia article indicates that Mikoyan started losing favor with Stalin toward the end of the latter's life, so if he has a shot, it's probably with a POD in the 1930s or early 1940s (though if you somehow have a late-era POD, perhaps even post-Stalin, somehow, please share). Maybe a world where Stalin commits suicide in the immediate aftermath of the Nazi invasion of the USSR, combined with a worse series of purges a few years earlier that get rid of more obvious choices for his successor, would open the door for Mikoyan? If so, how would Mikoyan handle the war and, assuming the USSR still wins, the post-war settlement and the first rumblings of the Cold War? What about internal policy?
