AHC/WI: Service AH-56 Cheyenne Helicopter

The AH-56 Cheyenne was an advanced american attack helicopter that could have offered some pretty good capability to the US armies CAS, how could it have, and what would have happened if it was accepted into service?

IIRC the biggest problem with the cheyanne wasn't the technical aspects and cost over runs, rather it was its tactical employment. Apparently it was to fly high and fast and attack in a steep dive, which put it right into the perfect engagement zone for the new SA6 SAM, which was launched at a low slant and then zoomed up. Sorting out the other stuff wouldn't reduce the basic vulnerability, so the AAH project designed helicopters that were slower and flew at low levels.

My suggestions: Introduce the AH-56 basically as-is, but with canopy that is bullet-proof for the 7.62 LMG fire. Have Lockheed design a twin-engined variant, with suitable reduction gearing, shafts and rotors. Night vision equipment for pilot and gunner as technology permits. 30mm cannon as only gun. Upgrade protection, both active and passive. Should end up as really fast Apache.
