AHC/WI: SEA—Oceania—Native American cultural exchange

What are the best chances of Southeast Asia, Oceania and the native civilizations of the Americas to establish cultural, diplomatic and economic relations long before the start of European exploration?

And what are the possible butterfly effects of such event?

Polynesians colonise the Juan Fernandez Islands, Cocos Island, and of course the Galapagos Islands. From there, they have more long-term voyages to have a vague trade network which stretches across the seas and leads to Southeast Asia.

But otherwise there won't be much contact, just distant trade, the same long-distance and indirect trade you see in the Americas. Maybe Zheng He or another Chinese explorer visits the nearer islands in the Pacific to get tribute from their rulers.

Biggest question is what spurs this trade network to develop?

How about a Southeast Asian empire doing the exploration?

Biggest question is what spurs this trade network to develop?
