AHC/WI: Russian ports on the Indian Ocean

Like it says in the title-how could Russia have gained a port on the Indian Ocean, and what would the implications be?

Somehow taking over Persia is the "easiest" way. Not sure how this could be plaubisibly done, maybe avoidinig to get involved in the Revolutionary Wars and subsequent Napoleonic Wars and snatching the whole place while noboldy else is looking? I guess some people in London will go completely nuts at the prospect, not to mention Constantinople. Problem is, let's assume Russia can conquer a substantial chunk of Persia with a corridor to the ocean, can the KEEP it against a likely coalition of more or less everybody else around and a surely significant local rebellion?
If it is around 1800something, they just might team up with Napoleon, partition a good chunk of the Ottoman Empire with him, and say fuck you to the British, but it sounds like a daunting task anyway.

A different route with an earlier double POD: no Nadir Shah, and competent Russian leadership at same time that sees the opportunity of a collapsing Persia and chooses to focus on that area. Alliance with Austria required to keep the Ottomans in check, problem being that the Ottomans at this point are still powerful enough to put an end to whole plan.

It depends.

If russia has a citystate possession in east africa or india, like portugal had goa and france had... ?pondicherry?, the nothing much chages, really.

If, however, you mean extend the ,stans, south, either taking over persia or conquering afghanistan and baluchistan, then the changes needed to ALLOW that to happen are bigger than the direct consequences.

The first result will be, as falecius says, britain going bananas.

But having an indian ocean port before about 1900 would be a huge liability because moving supplies or troops or whatever, would be very difficult across a thousand miles or whatever. Of course, once they can get rail that far, its a different matter.
