As the title says, how would a Romanian annexation of Moldova (voluntary or involuntary) turn out? Bonus points if it happens during the Transnistria war and Romania takes Transnistria too.
They'd probably have to let Transnistria go to Ukraine.
Ukrainians live there too.I doubt that Ukraine wants more Russians to their nation.
I suspect that this would be very good for Moldova since it is extremely poor and thus a lot of Romanian and E.U. investment in it could significantly improve its economic situation and significantly raise its standard of living. As the title says, how would a Romanian annexation of Moldova (voluntary or involuntary) turn out? Out of curiosity--why did the Russians in Transnistria rebel while the Russians in the Baltic states, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine (until 2014, that is) didn't?It really depends on how this happens. It might be more plausible if Transnistria never manages to break away and form its quasi-state, complicating Moldova's dance with Romania and wider Europe.
There may still be an economic gap between Moldova and the rest of Romania, but it may not be as big. That Moldovans will have Romanian citizenship may mean they will be more likely to emigrate to western Europe and less likely to go to Russia, and perhaps leave in greater numbers.
Everything depends on what, exactly, leads to the Romanian takeover of Moldova. How does unification become possible?
