AHC WI Richmond falls by Sept 1861

Suppose the Union forces had extreme good luck at Bull Run/ Mannasas and an aggressive Commander.

If The Southern Capital fell, would the CSA collapse.

If so what happens?

Clearly there is no attempt at radical reconstruction.

Are there in fact treason trials?

I know I've seen a couple of threads about this but my search-fu is weak today. I don't think that the South would collapse. I think the war would be shorter but I still think the Union is going to have to physically defeat the Confederate armies. The South was committed and losing a major city is going to be a huge blow but the war will go on albeit without northern Virginia's resources.

I doubt there will be many treason trials, especially if Lincoln is still alive. Even with a shorter war as in OTL people will just want it to be over and move on with their lives. Treason trials are just going to make everyone bitter without any real benefit which was why they didn't happen much in reality.

With a shorter war and Lincoln alive Reconstruction is still going to happen but its going to be a much better affair for the South.
