AHC/WI: Reverse Roll of West Francia and East Francia

Your goal is to make Germany remain a united polity while West Francia/France/Gaul conquers Italy and becomes a hot mess of disorganized duchies and princedoms and whathaveyous

Perhaps Louis The Pious only has two sons, so the German King gets the Netherlands and some of the west but the west gets Italy?

What would be some ramifications of this? I imagine that a centralized, prominent Germany to point at pagans, the northern crusades go very well at least

A mess, altFrance has an easier connection into Italy than otlGermany, so maybe we see them remain unified(actual authority) longer?

On the other hand a Germany without Italy might go into Carpatia/Hungary with reasonable success, if they establish themselves quickly enough.

Way too much depends on how Karlings do/survive.

At the beginning though, the HRE was about as organized as France(I think until dynastic issues happened). This might lead to a more compact Germany.
