No, but it was named for Mont Saint-Michel since it was historically associated with it.

Would the religious association hurt the mountain's ability to be used as a "Gibraltar" type defense? At least up until/during the Reformation, I'd assume.

How about having the Spanish take control of the island of Lundy, and establish a permanent base there, to control the Bristol Channel? Given what happened to the island historically IOTL, and how often it changed hands, having it end up in the hands of the Spaniards isn't out of the question.
