Can we get more countries to have great high quality democracies and to be adequately developed? What are the possible effects?
Early and mid communists advocate religious freedom and equality whatever a person's religious beliefs are. In this way they get a little lucky in anticipating a modern view which has largely worked out very well and which receives widespread support.
And there's a third system which is not just somewhere on the one-dimensional number line between capitalism and communism but which is genuinely different.
And throughout the 20th century, these three systems compete on who can best deliver the goods to new and developing nations. And they don't compete on war and espionage and propping up dictatorships as was done in the actual timeline. They compete in genuine economic development. The world would be a far different place.
For example, maybe if a government hit upon the idea that unions potentially represent the vast majority of our citizens. And it's not enough to be neutral between unions and management. We're going to tilt like 60-40 in favor of unions.
And this compared to the OTL where governments were staunchly anti-union including calling the police and army out against them.
There are several ways this could be taken.
Can there be more infrastructural development on a global level?
More Communism would do the trick. They have a focus on heavy industry, and the like.
Can there be more equality?
Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East either needs to see India-esque federations that support strong democracy or several 'good dictators' that could bring them out of poverty.
Can there be more economic prosperity?
Extended colonialism and global corporatism should do the trick.
