AHC/WI/PC: EU-Like Asian Union, Regions of Asia United, So Forth

Is it possible for an EU-like organization to encompass Asia or at least regions of Asia or have regions of the continent be one nation (for example Southeast Asia either one country or be closely integrated)?

In the Anime based film Casshern 2004 the whole world is divided two factions Europa and the Eastern Federation. I think we are suppose to assume the Federation is dominated by the Japanese. And it controls most of the Asian mainland. We aren't given any concrete details just vague hints so hard to say for sure.

Its set in alternate Earth based on steampunk-esque technology.

Have the GEACPS be a legit anti-colonial liberation movement rather than a front for Japan oppressing the fuck out of everyone else.

There have been efforts to integrate the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia during the earlier decades of the Cold War.

Various intellectuals have dreamt of an East Asian union to counterbalance the Western powers since the beginning of the 20th century.

A Taiwan-South(or united) Korea-Japan union is the most economically and culturally viable, if there wasn't such a strong negative allusion about it.

Another reason I don't see it working is that it'd be Japan-dominated. People already think the EU is a more benevolent German Empire.

If it includes a functional China, then it's greater China. If it doesn't, it's greater Japan.

So, unlikely.

OTL, Prussia massively dominated the German Empire, but this was (marginally) acceptable to other Germans because it was the only remaining available route for German nationalism. No country is going to get subsumed by such a larger entity unless 1) you're talking a nationalist union (like OTL's Germany), 2) they're facing an existential crisis, or 3) the bigger nation conquers its neighbours.

Neither of the first two routes is going to get you anywhere in Asia (likely), and the 3rd is very much NOT an EU situation.

Could you get a Vietnam that conquered all its neighbours? Yes. Could you get a Japan that stayed out of China, and conquered the island nations around it? Yes, although that would take a pre1900 PoD.

Can you get an EU like union? Doubt it.

ASEAN technically applies, though the common market and currency are still in the works after so long. As for the other Asian states, that's going to be a pretty difficult issue, mostly because we have plenty of neighbours that have nothing but hate for each other due to historical conflicts.

I really doubt there would be a common currency...
Let alone a common market...
