AHC/WI: Palm Oil Doesn't Become Widespread

The French will be annoyed without their Nutella. The brown goo is as synonymous with French as smoking, cheese and white flags (just kidding).

How can palm oil not be widely used as it is OTL? What products can be a better replacement? How does this effects the economies of Southeast Asia? And is it possible?

some other tropical plant, whether its latex, pineapple or bananas or something else will replace it, nature of globalization, it sucks

One could hope that it would mean less deforestation and therefore less impact on local species (orangutans, Sumatran tigers, sun bears, great argus, etc.). It's entirely possible that there would be other reasons to destroy the Bornese and Sumatran rain forests, however.

Still, it's worth hoping.

Isn't palm oil a masturbation aid?

This thread needs shortening. I ask this: What if palm oil instead of becoming widespread becomes a skinny spread, similar to olive oil?

Sure, so they can clear land to grow something for some sort of bio-fuel boon doggle like the whole corn ethanol nonsense in the US.
