AHC/WI: No Sealion plan

What would it take to keep the Nazis content with conquering Western Europe and never come up with an invasion plan of the UK in the first place? By this I mean that Operation Sealion is never put together and something makes Hitler decide that the invasion of Britain isn't worth it at all, as opposed to OTL where he obviously had to go through the Battle of Britain first before calling the invasion off.

Would there still be a Battle of Britain, albeit with different objectives? What would the consequences be for Eastern Europe, Barbarossa, and whenever *D-Day occurs?

Yes. The objective would be to pressure Britain into withdrawing from the war, or failing that to damage their industry.

What would the consequences be for Eastern Europe, Barbarossa, and whenever *D-Day occurs?

Without Sealion as a distraction, Soviet intelligence might have gotten clued in to Barbarossa before it ever happened, which would have radically changed the war in the east… assuming they could uncork Stalin's head from his ass in time.

No Battle of Britain...

That would mean approx.

700 Fighters not lost nor badly damaged over England

600 Bombers not lost nor badly damaged over England

2,700 aircrew Not Killed In Action
670 aircrew Not Captured In Combat

Approx. 1887 German Aircraft not destroyed or badly damaged

Possibly a whole German Air Group or Two available to assist the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front..

Maybe.

Britain might be able to send a division or two and a couple of hundred aircraft to the med and cause Italy some trouble, or pick on Vichy west Africa or strenghen Malaysia. (Italy though would have extra aicraft too though that OTL participated in the Battle of Britain) or might have avoided Greece etc...

Certainly the Germans would be stronger east with the extra Luftwaffe, and the extra boost to the economy without the barges being diverted to the channel.

The Russians would be wary if the German wern't doing anything else.

For a while, the British would avoid bombing cities as long as the Germans wern't bombing thiers. However once the Germans invade Russia the British bombing will begin stronger than ever.

How about combining no Battle of Britain with trying to reach some political accomidation with France, Belgium and the Netherlands, Norway and Denmark (evacuation of these areas in exchange for continuing supplies, and reparations and keeping the British out) and then devote Germany's entire energy to the east.

They'll end up with hostile armies sitting next to the Ruhr. A successful French blitzkrieg into the region and Germany has to surrender. I don't think there is a chance for peace between Germany and Britain.

I think an aerial battle over Britain would still happen, focused at disrupting sea trade. It will have to include attacks on radar stations, airfields and aircraft factories to weaken the RAF anyway, so it wouldn't be much different than OTL BOB anyway.

It isnt like poof the french army of 1940 is going to appear on the German western border.

A peace treaty with France could keep France disarmed for a long time, could still demand reparations, supplies and loot, but could legitimize the Vichy regime, ease tensions with the USA, steal the wind from a Britain liberate the continent plans.

You dont even have to evacuate France right away, agree to 1914 borders, turn over internal admin, agree to withdraw in 5 years or the conclusion of general peace, return some of the pows now, some later.

In this no Battle of Britain scenerio, you are trying to wind down the west, keep things as quit as possible, and focus east, once Russia is defeated you dominate Europe, have your living space etc...

That would require a drastic change in Hitler's meglomania. He saw the netherlands, belgium, and northern France as part of a greater Germany.

If he wasn't willing to even discuss setting up a rump Poland, he's sure not going to return conquests after he'd just crushed all but one of his enemies. He'd be waiting for Britain to 'come to its senses'.

The Germans never intend to invade Britain in WWII. Operation sea lion and the battle of Britain was intend to force the British to the negotiating table to get the British to withdraw from the war so that German could be left to create and the 1,000 year Reich in between the Rhine and the Urals.

By August 1940 the Germans already had a political accommodation with those countries; the regimes of each were either entirely loyal or Germany administered them directly, you could not get a better accommodation than that.
