Now I know the idea sounds crazy but hear me out. I got the idea from a mini-tl made by Basileus Giorgios that I found in my old favorites(link:https://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=123082&).
So if Marie-Therese is kept in France (perhaps the French Government is afraid of giving the only surviving child of Louis XVI to the Austrians and decides to keep her) would it be possible for her to marry Napoleon? Perhaps he arranges for her freedom and she falls in love with him? Or less romantic he tries to marry her after his 18 Brumaire Coup? Or hell if she remains at the Austrian Court, could she be offered as a bride to Napoleon by Franz I? For all these lets assume Napoleon either never marries Josephine or she dies when she fell from a balcony in I believe 1797 or 98.
Would such a marriage help bring over the French Royalists and Émigrés? Would Napoleon still execute the Duc d'Enghien? Would they have a child? Would this child, assuming its a son, be a stable compromise for the Royalists to support? Would we see the French Royal House be able to return?
