AHC/WI: Mexican Louisiana

How has Spain been able to hold on to Luisiana until the era of Mexican independence (whenever it occurs in this alt TL), through the Napoleonic era and through the initial stages of american westward expansion? These hurdles need to be jumped first.

The Spanish managed quite well Luisiana as far as I know, there was considerable Canarian ("Isleño") migration to Lousiana Proper. I fear, however, that a "Texas-like" situation is almost inevitable regarding Upper Louisiana. New Madrid, Missouri was founded by the Spanish to accommodate Anglo settlers... In the end, I think that the fate of Lousiana is a matter of how stable/strong are Mexico, USA, Britan and, possibly, France.

Mexico had a hard time getting settlers into Texas and CA; the LA region would be near uninhabited. Which might mean an agreement to let American settlers in, as was done in TX... which leads to...

The thing is, I don't believe the USA could take OTL Guadalupe Hidalalgo+Louisiana in a 1 step process. At least two different wars/purchases would be needed.

If there's a war over Louisiana, Mexico could well learn the lesson for the next time and try to actually settle what it has.

Also would the United States in such an early state of its development be capable of carrying out a successful war against such an enlarged Mexico?

While the Mexican rebels might claim Luisiana, w/if Spain is able to retain control over it - or at least the lower Mississippi & the delta? This enlarged Mexico isn't as sure thing, is it?

Louisiana was far more populated than Texas or California. Mostly by French Catholics that would sympathize much better with the Catholic Mexicans than Anglo Protestant Settlers. We have to consider as well that there was some influx of Spanish immigrants to that area and the MASSIVE migration of the Haitian Élite after the revolution... "Pull the Texas" in Louisiana with this Demographics considerations would be really hard in my opinion, at least if we're talking about OTL's Lousiana State. Upper Louisiana, on the other hand, will mostly surely became an English-speaking area.
