AHC WI Meech Lake Accord Suceeds

What if the Meech Lake constitutional sccord in 1990s Canada had been passed? What would be the effects? Would Bloc Quebecois still form? Would the PCs survive? What if?

Well, it would be interesting.

It was an overly complex document, and a not very satisfactory one - but it may well have been the best that was politically possible. As it happens, it WASN'T politically possible in the end, but there you are.

I don't know what the results would be.

On the one hand, it would have calmed some of the separatists in Quebec down, on the other, we'd have ended up with an overly complex system, and as things turned out, the separatists never succeeded anyway. So....

At the time, I thought it was unfortunate it didn't pass. But now, I'm not so sure.

Western alienation would balloon even faster, claiming the Alberta Tory dynasty as a casualty. (You may see a provincial Reform led by Grey or Harper, which was Getty's worst nightmare and discussed by AB media IOTL) BQ would still form. PQ would still win in '94 for purely provincial reasons, trigger another referendum. Tories still collapse - they were polling in the 20s by '89.

Sounds like this just pisses off the West more than OTL and Quebec less.
