AHC/WI: Make Scotland like Ireland

Forgive this American for not knowing UK history but I think alot of the issue in Ireland was the great potato famine and all the death which either killed alot of Irish or drove them to immigrate to the US. Did Scotland go thru a similar phase?

Highland clearances. Whole communities moved out of their homes to make room for sheep - instigated by Scottish nobles - then came the potatoe famine, which did hit Scotland just as it had Ireland, and the Highlanders, evicted from their homes by their landlord, suffered starvation and death. Then came a second phase of clearances which was, in some case, far more violent and forceful than the first, resulting in the forceful eviction of up to 2,000 families in a day. Many emigrated voluntarilly, many were forcably evicted, some moved to the Lowlands, some joined the Army, some went to England, some went overseas to other Empire territories or to the US.
