The 'Gang of Four' in British politics refers to Roy Jenkins, David Owen, Bill Rodgers, and Shirley Williams who left the Labour party in 1981 following long-standing tensions between the left and right-wings of the Labour Party and the subsequent election of Michael Foot as the new party leader.

The splintering of the party, soon joined by other Labour MPs would go on to create the Social Democratic Party that would form an electoral alliance with the Liberals eventually culminating with the two parties uniting as the Liberal Democrats.

My question and challenge is how could a left-wing version of the 'Gang of Four' come to pass, who would it most likely be comprised of, and what would the repercussions on British politics be in this situation?
