During the time of the Great Heathen Army's invasion of England, a great king named Rhodri was busy uniting Wales. IOTL he was killed in a war with Mercia, and his realm was divided. What would happen if Mercia never interfered, or was crushed when they did? If he united Wales, how might he deal with inheritance issues? Perhaps he could declare that the "imperial" title of Wales would be passed to one heir only? Assuming he or his heir invades Mercia, could they succeed? Mercia was weakened by the Viking invasions, and since it covers nearly the entire frontier of Wales, it may make sense as a first conquest. How much land could this Welsh kingdom take? Could it last until modern day?
