AHC WI: Keep the Iberian Union together

So at one point in time we know that Spain ruled over Portugal and its territories in a entity called the Iberian Union. We also know that the Iberian Union fell apart in the end thanks to a whole host of reasons.

My challenge to you is this: Using a POD timeframe of your own choosing, prevent the fall of the Iberian Union and cite what the potential fallout would be if the Union continued to exist.

Prevent the success of the Portuguese Restoration War. Have Spain develop better relationships with England to prevent so much hampering of Spanish shipping. Keep France obtaining the treaty of the Pyrennes or similar to ensure they don't support the Portuguese. Or just don't have Spain trying to push out the Portuguese nobles.

The difficult part is having a Spanish ruler with better DNA. The Spanish Hapsburgs were always going to have difficulty somewhere down the line due to the very small gene pool. Its hard for Spain to hold onto Portugal without a strong, capable and healthy leader. Even if you keep Portugal-Spain together if you end up with a new Spanish War of Succession Portugal will opt to break away unless they have a VERY good reason to stay.

In an Iberian Union Portugal will inevitably become a junior partner. The difficult part is suppressing the pro-nationalist feelings enough to hold it together in the long term.

Long term the Union could potentially be far richer and powerful, since both manage to keep ahold of their colonies and coordinate far better. It could end up being a match for France and maintain its power over the next few centuries instead of finding itself weakening over time. However, its not an easy task.
