That's a real challenge. For one, he wasn't that popular among the population. Second he had no real blood claim to the throne, something that conservatives didn't like. Third, he would never be accepted by the supporters of the Borbóns or the Carlists. Amadeo was in a bad position and it would only get worse. For better or worse the Spanish loved their incompetent, corrupt Borbón monarchs.

Honestly, it's simple, keep Prim alive. He was one of the very few who actually supported Amadeo's candidature and his death days before his arrival signified the end of the monarchy before it even started, for he lacked any political support from essentially anyone.

But the cortes and peoples did were suppoting him, heck el ole ole si me eligen(hey hey if you choose me) was a dearing joke in favour of him, them napoleon III(el pequeño) ruined it. Amadeo I was just like caretaker and more improtant...Prim death, that killed hope of the 'democratic king' experiment and made reactionaries be back in full force.

Surely, he would need something or someone able to steeling his nerves. The guy was too much nervous and not convinced at all of the necessity to fight for keeping the Spanish throne. His wife was surely more determined than him....
