AHC/WI: Iran-Contra Not Discovered

What if Iran-Contra was never discovered - at least not during the 80s as it was OTL? Many nefarious CIA plots are never made public knowledge, and what if the same was true for this one?

Additionally, what if it came out in the 90s, while Clinton was President. Might he be blamed?

I imagine this wouldn't really change much electorally from the late 80s and early 90s, since Republicans were in control anyway, and still would be (just with more seats in Congress).

Obviously Clinton wouldn't be blamed, but depending on when it comes out this would hurt Republicans electorally. The 1990s was the time that right wing think tanks whitewashed, exaggerated, or even manufactured key parts of Reagan's punlic legacy in order to preserve him as a popular symbol of conservatism. Iran--Contra being revealed during this time would be a serious blow to this effort.

Its also probable the players in Iran-Contra and thet been outed in the 1980s would have contrived and executed other activities, which might have appeared even worse when eventually revealed. Extended prison time offenses vs community service.
