AHC/WI: India Split between Communists and Capitalists

With any pod after 1900, how can we get an India that's divided like Korea and Vietnam? Where are the borders most likely to be drawn and would there be any hope for reunification? The only pod that comes to mind would be a communist revolution during or after WWII that manages to seize half the country but fails to completely take over.

In this ATL:
  • India split during the 1950s
  • Bangladesh still splits from Pakistan as OTL (some time in 1970s)
  • Simmering Kashmir conflict post 1950s as OTL but this time with HALF of India (the northern part)
  • Southern part is heavily Tamil influenced and no longer has to suffer the racism of OTL with lighter skinned meat-eating Northern Indians looking down on them.
  • Nagpur - an obscure town for most of the world in OTL suddenly takes on international significance as Communist South India seeks to 'create' a capital which could rival New Delhi
  • Communist South India could potentially surpass Democratic North India in key economic indicators - GDP, GNP etc - because state corruption will probably be much lower than the North if the Communist government takes a hard line.
  • Potentially both North and South could be more economically successful compared to OTL India as a) there will be more competition b) resources will be more evenly redistributed among the population c) two separate governments will effectively be governing a smaller population than OTL
This could get quite interesting... 😀😀😀

How many Muslims were left in northern India after partition? A communist southern threat could make Pakistan reunifying a possibility.

Few points that will ensure no merger/reunification IMHO:
a. Democratic (North India) as an entity will still be larger than Pakistan and Muslims a non-concentrated minority
b. Muslims in India (external to Kashmir at least) will feel Indian so I very much doubt they'd even entertain such a thought.
c. Indian identity itself would still be cemented by the 1950s so for majority of North Indians (Hindus, Sikhs) the focus will shift to REUNIFICATION OF INDIA under one capitalist republican banner as opposed to looking north (Communists will be focussing on the reverse - to 'reclaim' New Delhi).
d. International (Western) pressure will ensure Pakistan abides by all previous international borders, treaties and agreements it made at independence.
e. F**k knows what butterflies this will create in terms of alliances, blocs, external influence in both Indias. My assumption is South India will look to Moscow while North India will be unaligned or look to Washington (?) thus a merger with Pakistan isn't really needed anyway as you'll have 2 pro-Western governments side by side.

This is what happens to India in my TL. The history behind that is covered in my post about it: https://www.alternatehistory.com/fo...ernate-space-race.527286/page-2#post-23101138

Was the Communist party ever strong in southern India?
Kerala had a communist government at one point

Maybe an autonomous Hyderabad could be the center of a communist movement, their princely leader sounded pretty bad in Arjun Subramaniam's book. Maybe that government negotiates something with New Dehli only to screw things up so badly at home that they create a communist revolution.
