It seems that throughout the crises the Stuart monarchy faced, they enjoyed a wide base of support among Irish Catholics. A major expression of this was the creation of Confederate Ireland in 1641, which pledged allegiance to Charles I & Charles II against Cromwell, and later widespread Jacobite support against William III during the Williamite Wars. Is there any POD during these wars, later Jacobite rebellions of the 1700s, or other times during this period that could lead to an independent, Catholic Kingdom of Ireland under a Stuart Monarchy? What would its relationships be with other European powers? Would England/Great Britain attempt a reconquest at some point?
